Sally D. Meadows Elementary is a third through fifth grade school. It is one of
four schools in the Vidalia City School System. Sally D. Meadows was opened
in the fall of 1964 and was named for one of Vidalia's most prominent citizens.
The school holds accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools.
Mission Statement:
Sally D. Meadows Elementary School will challenge all students to
achieve their fullest potential through an appropriate curriculum emphasizing
academic excellence while fostering relevant life skills and mutual respect for
all . The school will provide an environment where each student can become a
productive, responsible community member and life long learner.
Enrollment and Programs:
Sally D. Meadows presently has 56 faculty and staff members. There are
apprnximately 600 students enrolled in the school. Meadows has a full time
music and physical education program. Special education and gifted
education programs also exist at the school. A Jostens' computer lab is
located in the school and every classroom has at least one networked
computer that can connect to the three different file servers located in the
building to provide greater accessibility to instructional programs and
management options.
All students participate in the Accelerated Reader program. Students are
given the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that tie into our
quality core curriculum. Positive feedback is very important and the following
are utilized to reward students for maintaining high standards: Principals'
Award, Academic Awards, Most Improved Awards, Prnsident's Award for
Educational Excellence, President's Award for Educational Improvement,
Attendance Awards, Good Grade Brigade, Honor Roll, Lunch with the
Principal, Field Day and Math-a-thon.
Parent Involvement:
An active parent involvement program exists at the school. Some volunteer
activities include reading to students1 performing clerical assistance, tutoring,
providing support for special events such as book fairs and Lunch with the
Principal. Various activities are initiated which allow for positive interaction
among parents, students, staff and community.
Friends of the School, an organized group of parents, provide vital
assistance in almost every aspect of the school program.
The PTO is an organized body of parents, teachers, and staff working
together to provide a common bond which strengthens home and school. The
Sally D. Meadows Elementary PTO is an integral part of the total school
program.
All parents are urged to become involved by participating in established
meetings and special school functions which support the students of Sally D.
Meadows Elementary.
