Solid Waste Plan
 

This information is intended to educate the Citizens of Vidalia
about the problems we have encountered with solid waste and
our plan to deal with it. We cannot maintain  a clean City without a
plan.  We cannot be successful without your help.

PLEASE READ THIS MATERIAL

The City will pick up the roll out containers once per week.  ALL
 household garbage must be placed in the roll out container.
The container must be placed near the street early on the
day of pick up.  It is required to remove the container from
the street at the end of the day. Residential Garbage
The City of Vidalia produces an average of 27 tons of
 garbage and an immeasurable amount of yard waste per day.
Collection and disposal of this waste has become a huge problem.
 

The Problem

The City will pick up the roll out containers once per week.  ALL
 household garbage must be placed in the rollout container.
The container must be placed near the street early on the
day of pick up.  It is required to remove the container from
the street at the end of the day.

The City will pick up residential yard waste once per week.
A pile of yard waste  may not exceed 4'x5'x10',
 or you will be charged an  additional fee.
After Jan. 1-2001, grass clippings will not be picked up at curbside.
We recommend mulching or composting these clippings.
If you contract for yard services, large or small jobs,
the contractor is responsible  for the removal of his waste.
 If you are involved in a lot clearing or cutting of trees,
 hedges, etc., plan for removal when you plan for the
clearing. You may arrange for  your contractor to remove or
call  Sullivan Environmental  Services at 538-1616..

Brown goods are all those materials that do not fit in your roll out container.
Things such as, couches, refridgerators, swing  sets, mattresses, grills etc.
 These items are not covered in  your basic residential fee.
DO NOT PLACE BROWN GOODS BY THE STREET
until you have called Sullivan Environmental Services for removal.

Options for Brown Goods

The City feels recycling is important to our plan. Tin and aluminum cans,
all types of papers, number 1 and 2 plastics should be placed in the green
recycling bin. The recycling bin should be placed by the street on collection
day and removed at the end of that day. Cardboard (and other recyclables)
may be taken to the big green container  located on South Main St.
behind Winn Dixie shopping center. For further assistance, call

Every ton of recycled waste will help lower our costs and
keep your fees at a minimum.

Commercial Businesses must have a plan for solid waste removal.
Money can be saved by recycling efforts.  Yard waste services are
not available from the City for Commercial Businesses.

that you contact Sullivan Environmental
Services at 538-1616 to develop a plan that best suites your needs.
